Deep breathing is a physical way to blow your bad mood away. The increase in oxygen interrupts our negative emotions and signals our brains to think positive thoughts.

Psych Central’s publication, How Can Breathing Rhythms Affect Your Emotions? | Psych Central states, “Learning how to control your breath is a simple yet valuable tool to manage your emotions, and once you learn how to use it, you’ll see how it positively impacts your overall well-being.”

3 Breezy Breathing Exercises

(Consciously using your diaphragm to take deep breaths)
~ Place one hand on your stomach and one hand on your chest. If you’re breathing correctly, only the hand on your stomach should move.

2. Paced breathing:
(Consciously inhaling and exhaling according to a set rhythm)
~ Breathe in for a count of 4, hold it for a count of 4, and exhale for 6 helps to bring the body into a state of relaxation.

3. Meditative breathing:
(Focusing your attention on your breathing)
“On your inhale, think ‘1’ to yourself, and on your exhale think ‘relax.’ On your next inhale, think ‘2,’ and on your exhale, think “relax” until you reach 10, and then go back to 1,” says Thornewill.
